The first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was held in 2008. The tournament began on April 18, 2008, with the opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The inaugural season featured eight teams and was won by Rajasthan Royals, who defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final on June 1, 2008.
